Docklands Light Railway

"[This project] provides a modern and reliable public transport link from Woolwich town centre to central London and London City Airport, as well as the London Underground network. The new underground station at Woolwich integrates light and heavy rail, local bus services, taxis and water boats, to provide the area with a major multimodal interchange. The 2.5km extension includes twin 1.8km, 6m diameter, bored running tunnels which pass under the River Thames to a new underground station at Woolwich Arsenal. The project also includes a major intervention shaft and headhouse, which accommodates power distribution and communications systems. It is 15m in diameter and 40m deep and is positioned immediately adjacent to the river flood wall." - Halcrow Group
